Step 1: Gather Your Tools
The first step to pitting a car is to make sure you have all the tools you need. Most importantly, you’ll need a jack, a wheel chock, and a tire iron. You’ll also need a wrench, a flat-head screwdriver, and a bag of wheel nuts.
If you don’t have all these tools, don’t worry – you can always borrow them from a friend! Just make sure you’re careful with them, as they’re quite expensive.
Step 2: Prepare the Car
Once you have all the tools, you’re ready to start pitting the car. The first step is to make sure the car is in park and the parking brake is on. Then, use the wheel chock to block the wheel opposite the wheel you’ll be pitting.
Next, loosen the wheel nuts with the tire iron. Don’t remove them yet – just loosen them enough so that you can easily remove them later.
Step 3: Use the Jack
Now that the wheel nuts are loose, you’re ready to use the jack. Place the jack beneath the car and make sure it’s securely in place. Then, use the wrench to start cranking the jack until the wheel is off the ground.
Once the wheel is off the ground, use the tire iron to remove the wheel nuts and take off the wheel.
Step 4: Place the New Wheel
Now that the old wheel is off, it’s time to put on the new wheel. Place the new wheel on the car and then use the tire iron to put the wheel nuts back on. Make sure they’re tight, but not too tight – you don’t want to over-tighten them and cause any damage!
Once the wheel nuts are on, you’re ready to lower the car back down.
Step 5: Lower the Car and Tighten the Wheel Nuts
Use the wrench to lower the car back down until the wheel is touching the ground. Once the wheel is back on the ground, use the tire iron to tighten the wheel nuts. Make sure they’re tight, but not too tight.
